Location Solent Duration Permanent Salary £Negotiable Roles and Responsibilities:The Project Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the engineering scope of the project is delivered at the right quality, on time and to budget. The duties and responsibilities of the Site Manager shall include but not be limited to the following:- Manage the engineering functions on the project, including Third Party Design Houses and integrated package equipment suppliers; ensure that interfaces between the engineering groups and other relevant parties on the project are working effectively.
- Ensure engineering is performed safely and to the appropriate level of completion and quality, irrespective of any financial restraints that the contract may impose.
- Facilitate (but not necessarily chair) all key document, model and other layout/engineering reviews (eg CDM, constructability, maintainability etc).
- Ensure timely input to all PEM gate reviews and follow up action. He shall be the focal point for setting Engineering standards opposite the clients organisation and ensuring all technical correspondence is logged / distributed / replied to.
- Co-ordinate the engineering activities involved in the preparation of proposals, to achieve a technically sound specification and a competitive price within the time allocated.
- Co-ordinate and ensure consistency of engineering estimates.
- Co-ordinate the discipline engineering activities on projects, ensuring that the Clients requirements are met, that the applicable standards and legislation are complied with, that the resources are adequate and that the work is proceeding in accordance with the programme.
- Prepare and maintain Engineering Execution Strategy documents and the Engineering input to Project Execution Plans.
- Support, and on occasions deputise for, the Project Manager in dealings with the Client.
- Conduct engineering review and progress meetings, prepare minutes and follow up actions.
- Ensure that the Construction Division is afforded the opportunity of reviewing and commenting on proposed layouts and construction methods.
- Contribute to the preparation by others of estimates and programmes.
- Monitor commitments, expenditure and progress; ensure that any changes are identified and dealt with under the Change Control procedures.
- Monitor/control the activities/performance of sub-contractors.
- Identify the technical risks involved in proposals and projects and ensure that the commercial implications are taken into account.
- Identify any opportunities for improving efficiency, reducing costs and improving progress.
- Prepare and issue regular progress reports to Engineering and Project Management, normally on a monthly basis.
- Maintain CDM/H&S files, other legislative records, CE and other technical files/records.
- Supervise/assist with detailed design and/or procurement of plant packages, if so required. Approve design, specifications and plant layouts as set by authority of the Department Manager.
- Upon project completion, effect close-out in accordance with the client's procedures, ensuring that documentation/archiving requirements are met.
- Mentor/develop junior engineers to higher skill levels.
Qualifications & Experience: HNC/HND/Degree Qualified, preferably Chartered Engineer.
Several years experience within Process, Water, Power, Nuclear, Non-ferrous, Oil & Gas, or Pharmaceutical business sectors.
Capable of demonstrating career progression from discipline engineer (sound design background) to project engineer with specific responsibility for delivery to time/cost/quality targets on small to medium sized lump sum projects and within alliance type contracts and from concept to detail design.
Demonstrate a high level of working knowledge of all other engineering disciplines to the extent that relationships and interfaces are clearly understood.
Construction and commissioning site experience an advantage, as is exposure to contractual issues and control of sub-contractors.
