ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Skills required are typically acquired through completion of one of the following:
An undergraduate Engineering Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical.
An undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems.
Certificate courses leading to an MCSE or MCP in a current Microsoft Operating System (e.g. Windows XP)
Experience gathered over a number of years in the field.
Personal skills:
An interest in computing preferably both in hardware and software.
A logical and methodical approach to problem solving would be required.
An ability to communicate well when using the telephone and/or e-mail would be expected
The ability to work under pressure whilst handling a number of simultaneous tasks would be expected.
Willingness to undertake training to enhance the applicants existing skill set.
Be a self starter and take the lead when required.
Technical skills:
Experience with working with Windows OS's, registry entries and hardware configuration would be expected.
Knowledge of basic Engineering concepts and principles when dealing with the design of structures and foundations would be a very desirable attribute given the nature of the work.
PREFERRED SKILLS
Knowledge of TCP/IP, SQL, Software Licensing tools would all be advantageous
Experience in programming with VB or .Net would be a valuable attribute.
Knowledge of SMS (System Management Server) and experience with Scripting applications would be a valuable attribute but not a requirement.
A Passport and the ability to occasionally travel to overseas locations would be desirable.
A second language (e.g. Spanish) would be an added benefit
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
Working within the Engineering IT (EIT) application support team the incumbent with typically have the following duties:
Assists in the day to day support of apps, licensing and automated installation of engineering software on servers and client machines.
Perform the activities of software installation, testing, certification and distribution to computers by working with Engineering users and various other IT Departments.
Diagnoses software installation errors and performs corrective actions whilst dealing with Engineering users both locally and at remote locations worldwide
Work with and update information on the FAQ's, NE, and Support Fix systems
Provide First/Second line technical support to Engineering users for a number of applications. E.g. Staad_Pro, Foundation_3D, ArcGIS. Etc
Keep and update accurate records for software using the company systems.
Performs own work and provides assistance to others as directed.
The Structural team works very closely with Engineering projects to ensure that their software needs are met. It is not un-common for the team to provide consultancy to projects on the optimization of working practices and to deliver training courses to users.
There are considerable opportunities to gain cross discipline skills as we work to integrating the different core software packages that are in use globally. The team provides technical inputs to interfaces and/or produces them when they are not available commercially.
The team is expanding to met the needs of increased global working, which does mean that there are some opportunities to travel to other locations.
The team uses the ITIL and PRINCE2 approaches for its work and the new employee would be expected to use these principles in their day to day work. Training will be provided.
